Fairy Godparents Club
The
The Fairy Tale Magazine has a vibrant membership club. Fondly dubbed The Fairy Godparents Club, this is a virtual space where storytellers, fairy tale lovers and nature lovers meet regularly. Led by our Fairy Godmother in Residence, Kate Wolford, we share seasonally-inspired poems and prose, personal accomplishments and celebrations. Members arrive to our Socials (Zoom) bedecked in seasonal hats and flower crowns. Each social has a great giveaway. (Must be present to win!)
We host one writing workshop annually. In addition, we invite fairy-tale-centric speakers to share about their fairy tale related business or product. ⭐️ Announcement of speakers for 2026 -- coming soon!
membership supports The Fairy Tale Magazine, making it possible to pay our writers, to produce two regular issues, and a bonus issue for our writing contest. The issues are PDFs and are available for download from our website. (we welcome donations for the PDFs to help defray expenses associated with the magazine.)

📖 February 28, 2026 (Saturday) 1:00-3:00pm EST with Sally Rosen Kindred!
The Workshop: "Damsons and Bilberries, Taste Them and Try!:
Food in Fairy Tales Writing Workshop"
led by poet Sally Rosen Kindred
In this workshop, we’ll sample the magic of some fairy-tale foods in both poems and prose. Discussing approaches to edible elements in several tales, we’ll consider the kinds of craft-magic they make with the senses, and with notions of hunger and power. Then, in a set of fun, short exercises with attached free-writing times, we’ll cook up our own tasty drafts. There will be time for any who want to share their work for encouraging feedback. Fairy Godparents, pack your breadcrumbs and bring your pens and creative appetites–it’s going to be delicious! Come by! Come buy! Come by!

TestiMonials
I look forward to each and every meeting of The Fairy Godparents Club, even the ones that I miss and have to catch up on in the cloud, and I love that my fellow fairy godparents, who are a wonderful, as in full of wonder, and talented and generous and resourceful lot themselves, and whose very presence is the secret sauce that keeps me coming back, not to mention all the fun speakers and contests and giveaways and opportunities to share our progress and projects with, will understand when my one 'short' sentence goes on a bit more than some, because we all know that one must be very careful when dealing with the fey, and who's to say that you aren't dealing with one right now, eh?

Getting to spend time, live with like-hearted people! I especially love hearing each other’s work, and getting such supportive feedback from other writers and lovers of folklore.

While there are many, many wonderful benefits to being a member of the Fairy Godparents Club, including receiving early news and information about The Fairy Tale Magazine, fantastic workshops conducted by gifted presenters, and celebratory events of the season, the thing I love most about the club is the people. The friendships formed within a supportive community of those with awe-inspiring talent have provided me with inspiration and motivation, as well as encouragement and entertainment. The club members and staff of Fairy Tale Magazine create a welcoming environment, are passionate about fairy tales, and are sincerely dedicated to their personal craft. Their talent is truly amazing. Being a member of the Fairy Godparents brings me joy and who would not want more joy in their life!

My favorite thing about the Fairy Godparents Club is the friendships I have formed. Our group is full of talented readers, writers, poets, and artists who share a love of fairy tales and make the world feel magical. Writing can feel lonely at times, and meeting with the Fairy Godparents Club reminds me I am part of a fairy tale family.

I'm currently reading Jane Harrington's wonderful book about the French fairy tale salon writers, Women of the Fairy Tale Resistance: The Forgotten Founding Mothers of the Fairy Tale and the Stories That They Spun, and for me, the Fairy Godparents Club is a real life version of that—a lovely, supportive, creative bunch of like-minded fairy tale friends!
